How to start using AI at work

Starting with AI at work is more about habit than tools. The people who get value from it are not the ones who watch the most videos. They are the ones who try it on a real task this week.

Pick one task

Look at your last week. Find a task that was annoying, slow or repeated. That is where to start.

Use one tool

ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot are all good defaults. Pick one and stick with it for a month. Comparing too early is a distraction.

Be specific

Vague prompts get vague answers. Tell the tool what you want, who it is for, how long it should be and what good looks like.

Always read the output

Treat AI as a fast intern. Useful, but not someone you would let send a customer email without checking.

Build a habit

Use AI on the same kind of task for a week. After that, you will know whether it is helping. Then add a second task.
